Website Diagnostic FAQs
What is a Website Diagnostic, and how is it different from an automated website audit?
Automated tools can be useful for identifying technical issues, but a Website Diagnostic is a professional assessment of the website in context.
We look at the experience more broadly: what the website is trying to achieve, how information is structured, where users may encounter friction, how the site behaves across devices, and which issues are actually worth prioritising.
The goal is not to produce the longest possible list of problems. It is to understand what matters and what should happen next.
When should I consider a Website Diagnostic?
A Diagnostic is particularly useful when you know something about the website is not working, but you are not yet sure what the right solution is.
You might be considering a redesign, struggling with enquiries or conversions, receiving recurring customer questions, noticing usability problems, or simply wondering whether the current website still supports the business properly.
Rather than assuming the answer is a rebuild, we first establish what the evidence suggests.
What does UX research involve?
UX research helps us understand the people using the website and reduce uncertainty around important design decisions.
The methods depend on the question we are trying to answer. Research can include customer or stakeholder conversations, reviewing existing evidence, competitor and contextual research, behaviour analysis, usability testing, or testing how people understand and navigate proposed website structures.
We select research methods because they help answer a question—not because every project needs the same research process.
Do you always need to interview my customers?
No.
Direct customer research can be extremely valuable, but it is not automatically required for every project. Sometimes existing evidence and focused evaluation are sufficient; in other situations, speaking to or testing with real users may reveal something we cannot reliably learn another way.
We match the level of research to the importance of the decision and the uncertainty surrounding it.
Do I have to hire Unbound Studio to implement the recommendations afterwards?
No.
Your Diagnostic or research work remains useful whether you ask us to implement the recommendations, work with another provider, or handle the improvements internally.
If further work is warranted, we can help prioritise the next steps and provide an implementation scope. But the purpose of the Diagnostic is to give you a clearer basis for making that decision in the first place.
